Chartered Management Accountant, CPA, Chartered Global Management Accountant, company director, business owner and investor.

I specialise in business financial management with expertise in systems design and management, planning, business modelling and cash control.

I see my expertise as providing a vital support role to business operational management.

I became a chartered management accountant (CIMA) in 1976 after graduating from the University of Aston in 1972 with a joint honours degree in Accounting and Economics. I also joined the Australian Institute of CPA's in 1983 on my arrival in Australia. I was awarded the title Chartered Global Management Accountant when the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants joined forces in the early years of the 21st century.

I have over 30 years experience in a wide variety of businesses including White goods manufacturing, Oil and gas exploration, Commercial Cleaning, Coal mining, Transport, Retailing, Property management, Software development, and Recruitment and out sourced Human Resource services.

I understand that business owners today not only have to produce a quality product or service, they have to produce it efficiently whilst at the same time dealing with a complex set of compliance rules imposed by government, unions and other pressure groups such as those concerned with global warming.

I have a comprehensive understanding of modern technology as it applies to business. My philosophy, however, is to employ modern technology only when it has the potential to improve business communications, lead to efficiencies, or to provide other measurable benefits.

I have written a number of software applications in Visual Basic or Delphi. I have also written many macro driven applications for Microsoft Office and Open Office.

In 1998 I lunched a commercial “ERP” like application Responsive, catering for the special needs of the recruitment and labour hire industry. It had at the core a central database and covered Accounting, CRM, Scheduling and Applicant data management providing the business owner/manager with tools to manage staff, clients, orders, interviews, invoicing, and collections. The application provides daily, weekly, monthly and annual metrics giving valuable feedback to managers and through which the business can be analysed and controlled. I have built on that experience to develop more tailored solutions aimed at supporting business efficiencies and building useful data.

Throughout most of my working life I have focused on small businesses, those with a turnover up to $20m and up to 100 staff, and have both owned and run a number of successful small businesses in that time. I have hands-on experience of the challenges businesses face as well as a thorough understanding of business from a theoretical and academic point of view.
